Getting away from it all

No matter how passionate you are about writing, there are times when you just get tired of writing and of everything connected with writing. Both the bad and the good. But getting away from all of that can be tough.

Why? Outside of when we’re working (or supposed to be working), we all have a limited amount of free time. More often than not, that amount of time is even more limited due to any number of factors: home repairs/renovations; illness; children; commitments to an association, club, or church. In what little time we have, it can be difficult to step back from writing. Finding down time and simply clearing your brain can be tough. That’s unfortunate, because time away from writing is not only refreshing it clears your vision and your perception.

I look at my own professional life and sometimes cringe. When I’m not dealing with client commitments, I’m blogging (here and elsewhere; working with my business partner on marketing; developing proposals, queries, and presentations, and a lot more. A good chunk of my free time is spent working in this field.

Whatever other time I have left is devoted to family, doing things around the house, and friends. But there doesn’t seem to be enough time for that, either. In fact, over the last few years I?ve had to give up a few things that I’ve enjoyed doing — mainly because of a lack of time.

I’m still working on that whole work/life balance thing. I’m not sure that I’ll ever get it.

So, how do you find time get away from it all? Feel free to leave a comment. If you say I just make the time, expect a stream of unbridled nastiness …
