2008: the writing year that was

Another year. A lot of work. And a lot of satisfaction. 2008 was a pretty good one. I didn’t sign a six-figure contract, or get published in an array of national or international publications. But I did manage to work steadily, write steadily, and learn a lot.

This year was my first in which I tried to do some conscious goal setting. I blogged about that here. The goals encompassed my professional and personal life. Of the writing goals that I set for myself, here’s how I did with the major ones:

  • Break into new markets: managed to crack a couple.
  • Write an eBook: work is in progress, and it will probably be published in early 2009
  • Write three to five posts in this blog per week: managed to do that a lot of the time
  • Create and stick to an editorial calendar for my regular gigs: managed to do that most of the time

Other than that, I increased my total number of published articles to about 300. And I managed to renew my acquaintance with a couple of publications and to give a few presentations.

I have a feeling that 2009 will be a bit tougher, due to the current economic conditions. But that doesn’t mean that I won’t set myself a new set of goals. As for the goals that I didn’t reach, I’ll just roll them into the 2009 list.

How was 2008 for you? Feel free to leave a comment.
