Lessons in writing tightly
If you’ve read this space for any length of time, you know that I’m serious about learning new things and about writing tightly. Usually, it’s quite rare for me to combine both of those interests. But I’m doing it now.
How? I’m putting together a pecha kucha presentation. If you’re not familiar with the concept of pecha kucha, you have 20 slides and 20 seconds per slide to make your point. You have to distill an argument or story into a six minute, 40 second presentation.
And that’s not easy, as I’m finding out. I don’t use a lot of words when writing or speaking, but this is a challenge. It’s requiring a lot of thought, and a lot editing and rewriting to distill the story I’m telling. If nothing else, this is an interesting exercise.
When I’m done, I’ll be posting the slides and notes to my company’s Slidespace, and I’ll write a post mortem on the process here.
