Charging more for your services, revisited   Post2PDF

No matter where you look for gigs, it seems like the majority of people hiring writers want you to work for cheap. Peanuts, but often less than that. But how much should you charge? Should you work for low pay, or try to get higher rates.

A while back, I read this article at Men With Pens. The author of the article states that his business doesn’t believe in pricing themselves out of the market, but that:

We decided to choose rates that met our financial needs and that stayed within suggested industry guidelines. We also tried to price our services to meet market value. We set our ‘don’t go below’ rate, and we remembered to price ourselves within reach of most people.

My view is that asking a professional writer to work for $8.00 an hour or paying them $20 for a 2,000 word article isn’t acceptable. A good formula? As Paul Lima explained it, estimate how long a job will take and multiply that by your hourly rate.
