Being busy is good, but …

Something that many freelancers dread is not having enough work. Busy is good in our wacky little world.

Of course, you can be too busy. And right now I definitely am. I think the term is under the gun. What’s in my overflowing cup? This:

  • My current corporate contract

  • Preparing for a conference in May

  • Writing a script and preparing slides for a presentation the week following the conference

  • An update to an article

  • Building a bit of a backlog of the weekly tips column that I write

  • Writing posts for this blog and the two other blogs that I contribute to

  • A couple of other projects which have stalled

And when I get back from the conference, I’ll have at least three podcast interviews to edit and post.

Even with a good time and task management system my problem is not enough time and too many things to do — hey, a boy’s got to sleep and eat occasionally. Normally, I can fight my way through any obstacles like this. It’s never pretty, but I reach my goal in the end. This time ’round, though, things are complicated by a bad cold which decided to happy slap me and a number of personal commitments.

How do you deal with a situation like this? Feel free to leave a comment.
