Beating the blank page 
There’s nothing scarier to a writer than starting at the digital equivalent of an empty page. When you want or need to write and nothing is flowing … well, that can make you want to pack it all in.
As you gain experience, these episodes become less frequent. At least I hope they do. Even for experienced writers, when these episodes hit they seem to hit hard. But there are ways around what this article calls the blank page syndrome. In fact, the article list 10 tricks that can help you get started writing.
In the past, I’ve used four of the tricks — write from the middle, create an outline, use pen and paper, and change your location — with quite a bit of success. When the blank page syndrome next strikes, I plan to try a couple of the other tricks from the article just to determine whether or not they’re effective.

There is another one which works for me and I know some others and that is write something else. I once put a novel aside for two years, wrote a whean of short stories and poems and then went back to it and it’s probably the best thing I’ve written. It’s not always practical but it is an option.
