Sometimes your body tells you things

... and you have to listen. Take this weekend, for example. On Friday, I was experiencing chills, fatigue, and muscular and joint aches. Not a good sign, especially when I had a lot of work to plow through over the weekend. I went to bed at around 9:00 p.m. When I awoke the next morning, the chills and aches were there, along with the kind of headache you get with a bad cold. The symptoms (for the most part) wore off as the day went on, but I didn't get any work done. I spent more time laying on the sofa with my daughter, watching BBC World.

So, what does this have to do with writing? Plenty. Lately, I've been pushing myself really hard. Taking a lot of assignments, working on the podcast that I do with my business partner, and preparing the presentation for the DocTrainUX conference in Vancouver next month. In addition to all of that, there are a number of other things going on in my life right now that are causing me more than just a little stress.

Something had to give. My wife says what happy slapped me was a combination of a cold and my body telling me to slow down. For once, I listened.
