Start from the middle, work your way out
Over the years, I’ve heard writers talk endlessly about a work having a beginning, a middle, and an end. And about beginning at the beginning when embarking on a writing project.
I’ve found that approach doesn’t always work when dealing with non-fiction. I often start in the middle, work my way to the end, then develop the beginning. Or some variation on that theme.
Seems I’m not the only one who works that way. This article goes into some depth about starting in the middle and working your way outward. While geared towards technical writing, the information in the article can be applied to most (if not all) non-fiction projects.
