Thoughts on writing software reviews

Reviewing software can be a fun job. You get to play with a new toy, and maybe even learn something. But it can also be a tough, thankless job. Readers will criticize you for any little mistake or what they perceive as a mistake.

Technology writer Stephen J. Vaughan-Nichols wrote an interesting article that 1) outlines how he reviews software, and 2) rebuts critics of a recent review that he wrote. He makes two excellent points in the article:
First, a review is not just an opinion.
and
In a review, you also need to give context and facts for your opinion.
