Calendar and reminder software for writers
A while ago, I learned the value of keeping track of projects or assignments and their deadlines. All it takes to do this is the right calendar or reminder software. But choosing that software can be tough, especially considering all of the choices out there.
Here are a few applications that I’ve found useful and which I’ve recommended to writers I know. They’ve found them useful, too.
Mozilla Sunbird, which is a standalone calendar from the folks behind the Mozilla and Firefox Web browsers. Sunbird is easy to use, and lets you not only specify deadlines but also has a decent to-do list manager.
If you’re a fan of the Firefox browser, you can download the Calendar extension. This extension has the basic calendar functions of Sunbird, but is integrated in the browser.
If you use the Emacs text editor, then check out Planner Mode. It’s a fine task list and reminder tool that also does a whole lot more.
One online calendar that I really find useful is Planzo. Planzo can send you reports on what you have in store – like deadlines or milestones – for a day or a week.
Speaking of online tools, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention my favourite: Backpack. One of Backpack’s neat features is the ability to send reminders to your email address or mobile phone. You can also set up a deadline list in Backpack to keep track of what’s coming up, and then mark off the deadlines that have passed.
