The odds against making it
Writing is a tough business. According to this article, the odds are against you -- about 380 to 1. While the article focuses on people trying to make a living writing books, it's a pretty sobering read.
But does that mean you shouldn't try to make your dream of becoming a professional writer a reality? Hell, no! Years ago, most of my friends and family tried to discourage me from taking up my pen to make my living. But that's what I do now.
