Taking notes
Regardless of what you're writing, the ability to efficiently and effectively take notes is a useful skill. This Web page outlines several practical notetaking systems. While aimed at students, these systems can be easily adopted by writers.
My favourite of these is the Cornell Method. I've even created a template for OpenOffice.org Writer (complete with comments) that you can print out and use.
