A couple of apps to note
In between a lot of other things lately, I’ve been playing with some software. OK, I’m always playing with software … But that doesn’t mean I’ve been wasting time.
This time around I’ve been looking at a new (to me) blogging client and an interesting Twitter tool.
First up, GScribble. It’s a small desktop WordPress client. It’s fairly new — only a couple of months old — and while it’s currently fairly bare bones, it’s not too bad.
All that GScribble lets you do is write and post/publish a blog entry. Admittedly, that’s what every blog client does. You can add tags and apply a category, insert links, and add bold or italics to your text. No lists or images (at least, not yet).
As you can see below, the interface is quite simple:
But it does get the job done.
GScribble only works with a single blog. Support for multiple blogs would be nice.
ZenTwitter is a script that enables you to post a single tweet to the Twitter microblogging site. Yes, that’s it.
No reading tweets, no sending replies or direct messages. Just posting. And there’s nothing wrong with that. It’s great for posting a quick thought.
Of course, you need to keep it short. ZenTwitter doesn’t count the number of characters you’ve typed. The only thing I’d add is support for identi.ca.
Update: Just for fun, I made a copy of the ZenTwitter script (renamed to ZenIdentica) and changed the status update URL to http://identi.ca/api/statuses/update.xml. That worked.
Are there any interesting little apps that you’ve been playing with lately? If so, share them by leaving a comment.
