LyX, now with added features

I’ve been using LyX on and off since about 1999. It’s definitely not a tool for everyone, but if you want to typeset mid-sized and larger documents LyX is definitely worth a look.

After a long wait, version 1.6 of LyX is out. And it has some interesting new features. Like:

  • Layout modules, which let you set up style and use them across all of your layouts
  • Support for hyperref, a LaTeX package that you can use to add URLs and cross references to PDFs and more
  • Better handling of master documents
  • Improved support for tables
  • A better outline feature

And a whole lot more.

I can’t wait until this is added to the Ubuntu repositories so I can upgrade.

Thanks for the write up on LyX. It’s been a while since I’ve taken a look at it, so I’ll have to give it a spin.
