Expanded wireless driver support in Linux

I’ve never had any problems with wireless under Linux. Well, as long as you don’t count the time I trashed the NDISwrapper and the wireless subsystem on a laptop running Debian — it’s a long, strange story. I do know a few people who have, and know that there are many more in that boat. For many Linux users who have wanted to go untethered, the biggest problem has been the lack of drivers for wireless chipsets.

Sure, there are proprietary drivers (I use them in Ubuntu) but not as many Open Source ones — although the efforts of the folks at Madwifi.org are changing that. And another piece of good news has come from chipset maker Atheros: they’re releasing their new driver under an Open Source license. You can read more about it here.
